Parrots and Lory

Jurong bird park has a lot of aviary housing hundreds of parrots!
Many are kept inside a very large metal encloure.
Different landscaping are created for different types of parrots species.
If you want to take some pictures, go close to the metal encloseure, almost touching it.
(Beware of your camera lens)
Find a bird that's not so near to the metal wire.
Adjust the camera lens and focus.
Bingo...No messy wire shots!
Most of the parrots photo below are taken through the metal enclosure.

Moluccan Cockatoo (Cacatua Moluccensis)
50cm in length.
Female has lesser pink.
Feeds on fruits, coconuts, berries and insects.
Habitat : Coastal areas
Found : South Moluccas

Sun Conure (Aratinga Solstitialis)
30cm in length.
Habitat : Forest, Savannahs, Palm Groves
Found : Brazil, Guyana, Venezuela


Banded, Pink Breasted or Mustache Parrakeet (Psittacula Alexandri Fasciata)
37cm in length.
A noisy little bird.
Habitat : Rice Paddles, Cornfields, Lowlands
Found : India, Nepal, Burma, Andaman Island, China


Black headed Caique (Pionites Melanocephala)
23cm in length.
Feeds on seeds, fruits, berries, nuts, buds and fresh branches.
These birds are quite noisy.
Habitat : Savannahs, Forest, Rivers.
Found : Venezuela, Peru, Colombia, Brazil


Yellow fronted Amazon Parrot (Amazona Ochrocephala)
40cm in length
Habitat : Forest, Cultivated Fields, Savannahs
Found : Mexico, America


Blue and Yellow or Blue and Gold Macaw (Ara Ararauna)
90cm in length.
One of the largest Macaw
They are very affectionate and intelligent birds.
Habitat : Forest, Savannahs, Swamps
Found : Panama

Lory Loft :
It is 9 storey high.
At 3,000sq.m, this is the world's largest walk in Lory aviary.




Rainbow Lory (Trichoglossus Haematodus Moluccanus)
30cm in length.
Generally tame.
Habitat : Lowlands, Savannahs, Woods, Forests, Water, Gardens
Found : Australia




Ornate Lory (Trichoglossus Ornatus)
25cm in length
Habitat : Forest, Woods
Found : Sulawest

Demonstrating the up-side down hanging abilities!


Chattering Lory (Lorius Garrulus)
Length is 30cm.
These birds needs a special diet of fresh willow, fruit branches, weed seeds, earthworms...etc
Habitat : Coconut and palm trees
Found : Indonesia




Visitors are able to purchase a cup of food for the Lory at S$2.00 each.
These birds will fly readily to you when you offer the food.


Yellow Streaked Lory (Chalcopsitta Sintillata)
29cm in length.
Habitat : Lowlands, Savannahs, Forest
Found : Papua New Guinea


A lower section of the Lory Loft.


Violet necked Lory (EOS Squamata)
About 22-25cm in length.
Habitat : Coconut plantations
Found : Indonesia




Black-Capped Lory (Lorius Lory)
30cm in length
They live on nectar, insects, seeds and fruits
Habitat : Forest
Found : Papua New Guinea




Before visiting this place, I thought only parrots have a variety of colours.
I didn't knew lory could have so many different colours and species.
These birds so colourful and friendly.
I'm thinking of buying one as pet.
I wonder if a lory could get along with my cockatiel and rabbit???
